Remembering Bobby Brainard

Robert Brainard

The Goddard College community mourns the passing of alumnus Robert I. Brainard III on February 4, 2024. Known fondly as “Bobby” or “Bob” by friends, Robert graduated from Goddard College in 2002 with a degree in sociology after completing a post-graduate residency at The Dublin House.

Originally from Rumson, New Jersey, Robert was a gifted musician who found joy in playing guitar with friends. After building strong connections on the East Coast, he headed west to California with a spirit of hope and adventure.

Settling in Santa Cruz, Robert embraced the vibrant arts community there. He recently relocated to a home in the wooded setting of Boulder Creek, nestled blissfully among soaring Redwoods. Tragically, it was there that his life was cut short by a falling tree during a severe storm.

While words cannot adequately express the grief of losing someone so cherished, we can find some comfort in celebrating Robert’s generous spirit and zest for life. The memories and laughter he leaves behind will stay with his friends and family forever.

Robert touched many lives across the country with his warmth, humor and talent. Though his passing leaves a void in many hearts, his spirit lives on through the people and communities he connected. Goddard College and The Dublin House were both special places for Robert, and he will be dearly missed by those who had the gift of knowing him.

We send our deepest condolences to all those mourning the loss of this bright light.
