Part Time 15-20 Hrs. @ wk. / Union Position / $18 p/hr
BASIC FUNCTION
This is a paraprofessional position serving as assistant to library staff. This includes responsibilities in library public services, routine circulation duties, and special projects as assigned. Goddard College residencies for 2022-2023 will run from mid-July through early October and again from early February through mid-April. Limited hours may be available in between residencies, depending upon the number of hours worked during the residency. There is potential for this position to be renewed for the second residency. This is an excellent position for a current MLS student in an online program, or a current library staff member seeking additional part-time hours. Some evenings and weekends required.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as Circulation and Interlibrary Loan assistant. Responsibilities include checking out/in of library materials and answering patrons’ questions regarding account information Retrieve and re-shelve print materials, and package materials for shipping
- Participate in staffing of the Information Desk, answering directional and general questions regarding library resources and services. Provide responsive customer service via email, phone, and in-person interactions
- Assist with collection and stack maintenance, shelf-reading. Participate in de-accessioning of outdated materials or processing of new acquisitions as needed
- In coordination with the librarians, support secure set-up, maintenance and/or dismantling of exhibit materials as needed
- Share responsibility for opening and/or closing procedures, and staff the library solo during occasional weekend or evening hours
- Process requests for copies of Final Products (theses) and /or assist with access to Final Products. This may include asking permissions from the author, locating addresses and record keeping regarding the permissions process, as well as copying and shipping of materials
- Process incoming digital Final Products, including entering data into the digital archive system and managing and uploading files
- Process archival requests and assist with archival management tasks, including some lifting and moving of boxes
- Collaborate with other library staff to solve problems creatively, and continuously improve services to students
- Other related duties as assigned
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Supervision is received from the Director of Information Access
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Effective communication skills; ability to interact professionally and pleasantly
- Ability to work some weekend and evening hours during residencies
- Familiarity with a variety of commonly used computer applications and interest in learning library computer systems
- Experience working collaboratively in a dynamic, service-oriented environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. on occasion
- Bachelor’s Degree or significant public service experience. Library, computer tech, or higher-education experience a plus
