Artwork at the Psychology and Counseling Spring Residency

It’s wonderful to be back on Goddard’s campus in the midst of the mountains as spring insistently pushes its way in.

We welcomed new students and presented our Expressive Arts opening in the Haybarn Theatre Gallery for the 6th time. As usual, the container created by the works on the wall, the artists’ presence and performance art became a liminal space and a geographical location of transformation.

Included were process pieces created as students contemplated theoretical material that was an aspect of their coursework, readings of poetry, and excerpts from a recently published novel. Also included were examples of training materials made by a student in collaboration with her clients that will be shared with other service agency in the state and a collaborative art piece made by participants in a student led workshop during the fall residency.

Another significant category of work included pieces created by students as part of their own self exploration and growth as they prepare themselves to be counselors.

Here, I share with you examples of the work that excites and inspires me, and that is evidence of the significance of art in the Master of Arts in Psychology and Counseling Program at Goddard College.
