The Inside Scoop About the Spring 2013 Seattle Residency

The BA and MA in Education-Seattle program’s spring 2013 semester begins with the Seattle Residency from February 2-9, 2013.

The theme of the residency this spring is “The Power of Indigenous Documentaries in Conscientization, Education, and Building Cross-Cultural Collaboration.”

Come to Goddard College to work on your Bachelor of Arts or Master of Arts in Education degree with a focus on Dual Language Early Childhood Education, Intercultural Studies in Education, Community Education, Cultural Arts in Education, or a Study of Your Own Design.

What is a residency like?

Each semester begins with a residency of faculty advisors, students, alumni and staff coming together for an 8-day educational program where you participate in workshops, readings, group sessions, artistic and musical events, and more. After the residency, you return to your home communities and complete your studies by exchanging five learning packets, one every three weeks, with your faculty advisors.

The Seattle residency site is a community campus located in the Columbia City neighborhood. The 8-day residency component at the Seattle site does not include overnight housing; it is a day-only program. As the most ethnically diverse zip code in the United States, the Columbia City neighborhood offers a truly culturally and linguistically responsive environment.

Our model of learning offered at the Seattle site includes a Spanish-English dual language approach with simultaneous translation. While not all of our students choose to focus their study in the dual language model, everyone benefits from a linguistically diverse community.  The Seattle residency uses the Soy Bilingüe Adult Dual Language Model developed by the Center for Linguistic and Cultural Democracy, where approximately half of the residency is offered in Spanish and half is offered in English.

We look forward to seeing you at our spring 2013 residency in Seattle! Apply Now or contact Sharon.Cronin@goddard.edu for more information.
