Part-Time Faculty Positions (Seattle)
BACHELOR OF ARTS AND MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATION AND LICENSURE PROGRAM
Goddard College seeks candidates with a strong background in theory and practice and a commitment to progressive, emancipatory, and multicultural education. We wish to hire generalists with focuses in one or more of the following areas for our education programs in Seattle, Washington: dual language early childhood education, dual language adult learning, and intercultural studies through art and education. Hiring will be determined by student enrollment for each semester and student curricular needs.
Goddard faculty positions are not typical teaching positions; faculty do not teach traditional forms of classes. Instead, each student’s program of study is self-designed and the faculty advisor role is one of mentoring and advising. Advising occurs during the residency and over the course of 5 packet exchanges during the approximately 15-week semester. Participation in on-site residencies and subsequent supervision and written exchange with independent study students of diverse learning styles are required. If hired, successful candidates must travel to the Goddard College Seattle, Washington community campus for the July 26, 2012 pre-residency faculty meeting and the July 28 - August 4, 2012 residency, as well as the January 31 - February 1, 2013 faculty retreat and February 2 - February 9, 2013 residency.
Qualifications/Requirements:
A terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) or equivalent experience is required. A cross-disciplinary approach with experience and commitment to student-centered, progressive pedagogy is also required. Experience in early childhood, K-12, and/or community education settings is preferred, as is teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. For the Seattle site, bilingual Spanish/English academic and conversational skills are required and experience in college teaching with the adult dual language model is preferred.
Compensation:
Student advising workload is determined by student enrollment, and related compensation varies accordingly. Salary per semester will be approximately $999 per student advisee, plus $2364 per residency, plus $236 service stipend, plus travel reimbursement. Room and board are provided on campus during the residencies.
Application Instructions:
Please submit a cover letter summarizing qualifications, CV, statement of educational philosophy, and three references (name, contact information, and relationship to you) through Goddard’s online application portal hosted by HigherEdDecisions. First consideration will be given to applications completed by May 15.
