Goddard College was founded on the principles of anti-fascism and the idea that self-directed education helps build civic, democratic societies. Goddard was the first college to offer a low residency model of study, and the first to offer life experience credit to women barred from higher education because of sexist discrimination. Goddard’s MFA program is renowned as the most rigorous and radical in the US. Our faculty work one-on-one with students to develop individualized study plans and create challenging and supportive structures for writers to learn their craft, and to navigate the world of professional publishing.

Discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender and gender identity, national origin, disability, age, and genetic information is illegal and prohibited at Goddard College. The Goddard College Community is committed to structural change and taking action to end systemic racism and injustice. Throughout its long progressive history, the school has advocated for and implemented policies, programs, and practices that promote racial and social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion. We continue to examine issues of equity and social justice on our campus today and continue to implement new progressive policies and practices.
