Vermont faculty member Deborah Brevoort‘s opera STEAL A PENCIL FOR ME, written with Gerald Cohen, is one of the winner’s of the 2016 Frontiers Competition at Fort Worth Opera. Frontiers, which presents “the best and brightest new voices in opera” has been hailed as “one of the most significant music events of the year. ”
This is the second time that Deborah has won the Frontiers competition; the first time was for her opera EMBEDDED, with composer Patrick Soluri, which will be fully produced at the Ft. Worth Opera this spring.
Vermont faculty member Kenny Fries‘s article, “Umstrittene Räume (Contested Spaces)” appears in Junge Welt. The article, about the recent gay history exhibit at the Deutsches Historisches Museum and the Schwules Museum in Berlin, was written in English was translated into German by Michael Zander. On December 1 Kenny Fries read from his work as the opening of BODYS (Bochum Zentrum für Disability Studies) at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Bochum, Germany.
Port Townsend faculty member Beatrix Gates has been selected as Artist-in-Residence at QUEST University in Squamish, British Columbia in the spring of 2015 where she will be teaching a course called, “The Words to Say: Poetry and Prose” followed by an artist’s residency for her poetry projects.
Vermont faculty member Susan Kim‘s one-act play, “Pandora,” is being produced in translation as part of the inaugural festival at the Teatro Nuovo Gianelli in Genoa, Italy, in January 2016.
Vermont faculty member Jane Wohl is celebrating the publication of her new poetry collection, Learning From Old Masters, just published by Fithian Press. For those of you who live within driving distance of Sheridan, Wyoming, you are invited to the launch and book-signing from 2pm to 4pm at Sheridan Stationery and Books this coming Saturday, December 19.
