  • Part Time, Temporary Faculty Position – One Semester spring 2021

    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Goddard College’s MFA program in Interdisciplinary Arts envisions the arts as socially and individually transformative practices. We conceive of artmaking as a form of critical inquiry, community co-creation, and creative, participatory research. The Interdisciplinary Arts engage the public in pressing contemporary issues or concerns and can activate movements for social justice. We seek faculty advisors committed to dialogic, student-centered, innovative approaches to the education of practicing artists.

    We seek candidates who can support students enrolled in the two concentrations. For the Decolonial Arts program, the successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of theories and practical application of decolonization or decolonial strategies; and at least one of the following subject areas: Indigenous Art, Indigenous Resurgence, Indigenous and Afro-futurism, Decolonial Art/Decolonization Studies, Settler/Colonial Studies, Intersectionality and Anti-racism, Ecological and Climate Justice. Candidates with relationships and experience working in relationship with Indigenous communities and/or individuals preferred. The student load is 5-7 students.

    For the Performance Creation concentration, candidates will demonstrate an understanding and practical application in some of the following fields: theatre, dance, performance art, live art, socially-engaged art, community performance, video/film, and/or music/sound art. We are particularly interested in candidates who engage with anti-racist, anti-colonial discourses, intersectionality, Africana or African-American Studies, diaspora studies. Candidates with relationships and experience working with Indigenous communities and/or individuals are preferred. An MFA or equivalent is required.

    Service as a faculty member in the MFAIA program includes advising students on their study plan during residency and mentoring students through written exchanges over the course of a 15-week semester. Appointment is contingent on final enrollment. Compensation is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement Faculty Salary Scale. Faculty will serve in the Port Townsend residency and must be available to advise students in the virtual residency February 12 – February 20, 2021

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    The successful candidate’s primary practice will demonstrate engagement with Decolonial or Indigenous art practices, preferably in the disciplines of dance, theater, music and/or performance with expertise in some of the following areas: dance theater, acting, directing, socially engaged theater, improvisation, movement, and choreography. Ability to engage with a wide range of media, and support the development of students with diverse art philosophies, values, and learning styles essential. MFA or equivalent required.
