Remembering Margo MacLeod

Margo MacLeod
Margo MacLeod
To the Goddard Community:
I’m writing with the sad news of the passing of former Goddard faculty member and program director Margo MacLeod. Margo died peacefully among family and friends on April 2nd.
Margo was a well-loved and respected member of our community. She lead the Indivualized BA and Individualized MA programs for many years, contributed a great deal to the development of many of our current graduate programs, and mentored many faculty members in a passionate belief in progressive educational practice.
We will tell Margo’s Goddard story in the next issue of Clockworks, the Goddard College alumni and community magazine. As details emerge about memorial activities, we will add information to this blog post.
In the meantime, our thoughts are with Margo’s family and friends, particularly those in the Goddard community who were touched by her friendship and leadership.
Sincerely,

Update 4/11/18
Margo Macleod, Goddard Academic Leader 1991-2009
The Goddard College community mourns the passing of Margo MacLeod on April 2, 2018. Margo died peacefully near her home in Texas, surrounded by family and friends. Margo was an influential academic leader at Goddard for 18 years, directing the combined Individualized BA/MA Program from 1991 until 2002, and continuing to direct the IMA until 2009. During her tenure at Goddard, Margo was instrumental in the development of several of our current academic programs, including the MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts; BA and MA in Health Arts and Sciences, and MA in Social Innovation and Sustainability. She also guided the development of MA concentrations in Transformative Language Arts, Consciousness Studies, and Embodiment Studies. In addition, Margo was acting director of the Goddard center for business and democracy from 1992-1995.
Margo was a trustee and past president of the Foundation for World Education, and was among the original founders, in the 1960s, of one if the Foundation’s core projects – an international intentional community working with and among Tamil villagers in Auroville, India. She was also a trustee of the White Rose Foundation, dedicated to the unity and value of all spiritual traditions and the evolution of consciousness found through the world’s children. She was deeply involved with both organizations until her passing.
