Plainfield, Vt. – Visiting writer Justin Torres, author of the novel We the Animals, will read from his fiction, answer questions, and sign books on April 14th at 7:30pm at the Haybarn Theatre at Goddard College. This event is free and open to the public as presented by Goddard’s BFA in Creative Writing Program.
Justin Torres’ We the Animals is a coming of age tale of three brothers that speaks to what it’s like to grow up in the chaos, darkness, lyricism, laughter, fire, and excitement of now.
“One of the most memorable and resonant coming-of-age novels since The Catcher in the Rye.” — Culturemob
“A poetic slideshow . . . So compelling and so beautiful . . . it reads like a kind of shattering crescendo.” — NBC Weekend Today
A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Torres has received a Rolón Fellowship in literature from United States Artists, and was a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford, as well as a fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies at Harvard.
“We are thrilled to host New York Times bestselling author Justin Torres at Goddard College,” said BFA Program Director Janet Sylvester.
“His fiction reading that is open to the public will enrich the local literary community, and his writing workshop for our low-residency students in the BFA in Creative Writing and Undergraduate Programs will support our academic offerings,” she said.
