Dr. Barbara Vacarr, President of Goddard of College, and the Goddard Board of Trustees announced on Thursday, July 25, 2013, that Dr. Vacarr will be stepping down as President at the end of the 2013 calendar year.
Dr. Vacarr joined the College in 2010 after a distinguished career as a leader in developing innovative programs for adult learners. In addition to her leadership, she brought to Goddard an academic background as a psychologist and adult educator.
In discussing her decision with the board, Dr. Vacarr expressed to the board her need to focus on her family. She will continue the crucial work of the president while preparing the college for her successor.
Dr. Vacarr said: “In this challenging time of national economic and enrollment concerns for higher education, I remain focused on the issues paramount to Goddard’s mission. However, I have concluded that I must also pay more attention to the personal challenges facing close family members. Therefore, I look forward to working with the Board in leaving the College moving ahead. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead such a wonderful institution.”
Andrea Lebron-Clay, Chair of the Board, conveyed best wishes to Dr. Vacarr on behalf of the College: “Barbara has been tireless in facing the demands of the presidency, whether it has been fundraising in these difficult times or facing the dramatic changes coming in higher education. We are appreciative of her service and wish her and her family all the best for future health and happiness.”
Under Dr. Vacarr’s tenure, the College has adopted a revised mission statement and implemented a five-year strategic plan focusing upon key infrastructure concerns, such as increased outside fundraising and alumni outreach. Her leadership was instrumental in the establishment of numerous partnerships with strategically aligned organizations to support future enrollment and in consolidation of academic programs within a structure of undergraduate and graduate studies.
Her accomplishments include the launch of the College’s undergraduate program on the West Coast, implementation of a diversification plan of revenue, and instituting a marketing outreach program that has heightened Goddard’s visibility in the higher education community consistent with its heritage and high-quality reputation.
Dr. Vacarr will lead the College as President through December 31, 2013. She will continue to focus on strategic initiatives, including the broadening of funding opportunities, providing support for the Director of Admissions and the continued development and implementation of the strategic plan.
