Goddard College joins the Common Application

PLAINFIELD, Vt. — Students applying to Goddard College’s undergraduate programs will now have the ability to do so through the Common Application, an online system used by nearly 700 colleges and universities in the United States and around the world to manage the college admission process.
By joining the Common Application, Goddard College gains the opportunity to discover those students who may not have been reached in the past.
“Our membership in the Common Application will improve access and streamline the application process for students who are transferring or applying to college for the first time,” said Gariot P. Louima, dean of enrollment and external affairs.
Goddard’s application process will continue to be student-centered and holistic. When evaluating applications for admission, the College assesses each student’s interest in and understanding of its unique educational model; readiness for a rigorous and writing-intensive academic experience; and preparation for independent and critical work in the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. Goddard is a test optional institution and does not require standardized test scores.
Goddard is one of 48 new institutions to join the Common Application. New Common App members represent 22 U.S. states, 5 countries outside the U.S., and include 11 U.S. public, 26 U.S. private, and 11 international institutions. Each member brings a unique mission and special qualities while sharing the commitment to advancing college access.
The 2016-2017 Common Application goes live on Aug. 1. Goddard will accept spring 2017 and fall 2017 applications to its BA, BFA and Early College programs through either the Common App or the College’s institutional application.
Students can add Goddard to their Common App account by clicking here. High school counselors can use Common App Ready, a flexible advising tool, to introduce students and families to the college preparation and application processes.

About Goddard College

Goddard College is a liberal arts institution offering low-residency bachelor’s and master’s degrees from its campus in Plainfield, Vermont, and its educational sites in Port Townsend and Seattle, Washington. Constituted according to the ideals of democracy and principles of progressive education developed by John Dewey, Goddard’s curriculum is centered in the problems of choosing and deciding—students decide their areas of study, they determine which resources they will use, and they devise how they will measure what they learn. The College was founded in 1863 and moved to its Plainfield campus in 1938. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., through the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.
