MFAW-WA Student Jo Manu’s Essay Taken for Anthology
MFAW-WA student Jo Manu’s essay “On the Level” has just been accepted for publication in the anthology Queer Voices. The book will be put out by theMinnesota Historical Society Press (pub date TBD). Jo has had a good July, 2018; she also received an Engaged Artist Award of $2,000, sponsored by PEN America, joined by other Goddard students Amy Barnes, Lisa Chambers, Will Duprey, Ron Estrada, Brian Jackson, Jo Manu Maltzman, Sarah Monahan, Jay Sheets, and Rachel Spalding. PEN Canada member Magdalen Bowyer, also received the honor.
For readers interested in the GLBT history of Minnesota, Queer Twin Cities (Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press, 2010, 332 p., paper, $25.00) provides a critical history of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender visibility and presence in Minnesota. The book was assembled by the Twin Cities GLBT Oral History Project, an editorial collective of students, professors, and activists who compiled an archive of oral histories drawn primarily from long-time (30-plus years) area residents.
