Wendy Goldberg on The O’Neill Development Process

Wendy Goldberg, Artistic Director National Playwright’s Conference, will be joining us at the next Vermont residency, on January 6th (1:15pm to 3:00pm) for a discussion on The O’Neill Development Process at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre center, one of the nation’s premiere new play development programs.  She will cover all facets of the program, from submissions to play selection, the development process, and new play dramaturgy. Sponsored through the MFA in Creative Writing Program’s Playwrights Enrichment Series, which was generously funded by an anonymous alumni donor. Free and open to the public.
Wendy C. Goldberg is in her 11th season as Artistic Director of the National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. In 2010, under Goldberg’s tenure, The O’Neill was awarded the Tony for Regional Theater Excellence and is the first development and educational organization to receive this honor. Wendy has overseen the development of over 80 projects for the stage, most of which have gone onto world premiere productions. Plays developed in the past 10 years have won every major playwriting award including the American Theater Critics Association Awards, The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, Obies and The Pulitzer Prize.  More about Wendy’s work at The O’Neill can be read book recently published by Yale University Press,  THE O’NEILL: THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE MODERN AMERICAN THEATER. In addition Wendy  is an award winning director having directed premieres, revivals, and musicals at some of the most esteemed theaters in this country including Arena Stage (five productions), The Goodman, Denver Center (five productions), The Guthrie (two productions), Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park (four productions) and many others. Currently Wendy is represented on Broadway as Creative Advisor for the long running Rock of Ages. Wendy has directed in every major play development program in the country, is a graduate of The University of Michigan and has an MFA from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television where she was awarded their 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award.  Wendy lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., with her partner and her 4-year-old son.
