Faculty:
MFAW-WA faculty member ​Bhanu Kapil gave a talk at the British Columbia Nurses’ Union annual human rights and equity conference, in Vancouver. She spoke on themes related to foreign life and care.  Copies of Bhanu’s Schizophrene were distributed as door prizes by the organizers.
MFAW-VT faculty member Kenny Fries has six poems included in 12 Poetas:  Antologia de Neuvos Poetas Estadounidenses (!2 Poets: Anthology of New U.S. Poets), an anthology edited and translated by Maria Vázquez Valdez and Margaret Randall, published in Mexico by Quetzal León (La Herrata Feliz Ediciones, Ministry of Culture of Mexico). The anthology, partially funded by the Mexican government, will be widely distributed throughout Mexico, including the 22 Educal bookstores in Mexico City and 66 Educal bookstores in all other Mexican states.  (book cover attached).  This is Kenny’s first translation into Spanish. Also, Kenny’s poem “Kyokusui, Sengan-en,” from In the Gardens of Japan has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize by Garden Oak Press.
MFAW-VT faculty member Kyle Bass has been appointed Burke Chair in Regional Studies at Colgate University for the 2018-2019 academic year. As Burke Chair, Kyle will develop a research and dramatic writing project related to his family history: a story of enslavement, emancipation, struggle, and perseverance. During the Burke Chair appointment, Kyle will teach a course in Dramatic Writing for Stage and Screen as well as a research-based writing seminar.
