Cara Hoffman

Cara Hoffman is the author of the critically acclaimed novel So Much Pretty, which was chosen for the New Yorker’s “Books Pick,” and Entertainment Weekly’s “Must List,” and was submitted for a National Book Award. Marilyn Stasio of The New York Times calledSo Much Pretty “a fearless first novel” describing Hoffman’s writing as having “a restraint that makes poetry of pain.” Before she became a novelist, Hoffman worked as an investigative reporter at a daily newspaper. She covered New York State’s rural and rust belt communities for over a decade, reporting on environmental politics, county legislatures, and crime. She received a New York State Foundation for the Arts fellowship for her work on the aesthetics of violence and its impact on children. Hoffman received her Masters of Fine Arts in writing from Goddard College in 2009. She has been a guest lecturer at Cornell University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and taught English at Tompkins Cortland Community College and Lehman Alternative Community School. She currently lives in Manhattan where she teaches writing at The Lower East Side Girl’s Club and sings with the St. George Choral Society. Her second novel is forthcoming from Simon and Schuster next year.
