Calling all female filmmakers! Just got word of a workshop in Brooklyn, coming up, led by a friend of mine, a Hedgebrook alumna, and a fabulous filmmaker: Cynthia Lowen. (Cynthia is also an award-winning poet and winner of the 2012 National Poetry Series for her collection The Cloud That Contained the Lightning, which explores the enduring legacy of nuclear weapons, using the character of J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as the “father of the atomic bomb,” as a jumping-off point…but I digress.)
Here’s what you need to know:
“Women at the Helm: Documentary Film Producing for Impact” is a multimedia workshop open to women filmmakers with documentary film projects at all stages. Topics to be covered include development, pre-production, budgets and fundraising, post-production, legal concerns, distribution, and measuring impact. The workshop includes take-away resources and time for Q&A. Cynthia will be available following the workshop for those with specific needs regarding their current project.
