Goddard College is home to more than 20,000 alumni globally. Our alumni tell us that their unique experience here is central to their approach to their work and has had a transformative effect on their life.

Patricia Shepherd (IBA ’08, MFAW ’10) is a two-time graduate and Boston Chapter Co-Chair. Here is a statement on her experience and why she gives to Goddard:
“I enrolled in Goddard’s Individualized Bachelor of Arts (IBA) program to finish my undergraduate degree. I chose Goddard because alums of its Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (MFAW) program qualify for Clockhouse Writers’ Conference & Retreat (CWC&R). To become an authentic writer, I needed that annual accountability.

Learning to trust the process stretched my conservative upbringing and helped me realize the more effort I put into something, the more benefits I received. The Goddard process is a mindset of moving from a place of understanding less to one of understanding more. For me, it has also become a life process. I am not the type to join marches against, nor construct habitats for, but I can work in support of. I continue to discover ways to institute change.

I am fortunate to be able to give financially to the annual fund, CWC&R scholarship and Clockhouse journal, and am in the process of adding Goddard to my will. I also give of my time as the student trustee during my IBA/MFAW year, as a CWC&R steward, and as an alumni hostess and co-chair of the Boston Alumni Chapter. I give because I believe the Goddard Community is only as good as the sum of its members, and I want to ensure future generations have the opportunity to acquire skills for progressive lifelong learning.”
