The Spirit of Goddard Scholarship is given to new and returning students with financial need, and who demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Goddard College, which is to advance cultures of rigorous inquiry, collaboration, and lifelong learning, where individuals take imaginative and responsible action in the world.
DEADLINES
For NEW students whose programs are starting in July the extended application deadline is June 28th (postmarked or dated electronically). Degrees include:

For programs starting in August-October the application deadline is July 22 (postmarked or dated electronically). Degrees include:
- UGPs
- BFAs
- GGI
- Psychology

SPIRIT SCHOLARSHIP DONORS
- Russ Bovit Memorial Scholarship – established in memory of Russ Bovit by his family. Russ Bovit found his intellectual and social community here during his four years in the residential undergraduate program. He was ethical, non-competitive, and he flourished in Goddard’s hands-on, progressive learning environment. He studied alternative energy, wind power, ecology and architecture and graduated in 1977.
- GUSS Scholarship – established in 1995 by Piers Anthony and Carol Jacob, who attended the residential program during the 1950s. Other contributions have been added to this fund; in particular gifts given in memory of Daniel (Bucky) Schling (BA, 1989) by his parents Phyllis and Joseph Schling.
- Jack Lindquist Scholarship – established in memory of Jack Lindquist, Goddard’s President from 1980 to 1990. Jack stewarded Goddard through a challenging decade and is credited with a major rescue effort. A scholarship was set up in his memory because he was very concerned about the rising cost of higher education for students.
- Wagner Scholarship – a gift from a Trust set up by Jerome and Norma Wagner. Dr. Jerome Wagner believed in work-based education and that students should be challenged to learn about the American free enterprise system and its vital role in a strong economy.
- Will Hamlin Scholarship – Will Hamlin worked at Goddard for 52 years, from 1948 to 2000. He served as faculty, dean, registrar and publications director. For many, he was the “embodiment” of the spirit of Goddard. When he retired in 2000, several of his former students and colleagues began a scholarship in his honor.
- Michael W. Charpentier Scholarship – Michael was a philosopher and educator who was a strong believer in sustainable and alternative business models and democratic values. Michael believed that engaging persons in dialogue rather than debate would create a more cooperative community with economic and social justice for all. Funds have been established in memory of Michael by his family to ensure that future students may pursue their passion for sustainability studies.
