BASIC FUNCTION:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for daily oversight of the college’s accounting function with the purpose of facilitating timely financial reporting. The Accounting Manager will also be responsible for assisting the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer in the development and implementation of internal controls and efficiencies in cross-departmental financial operations. The Accounting Manager holds responsibility for working with external financial auditors to ensure timely completion of audits.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures the accurate and timely processing of all accounting transactions and compliance with Federal, State, Department of Higher Education and College regulations and policies and generally accepted accounting practices.
- Coordinate all audit activity.
- Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
- Prepares annual financial statements and documents in support of the annual independent audit and other audit activities.
- Plans and implements new operating procedures and information technology advances to improve accounting and financial service quality and efficiency.
- Supervises accounting staff and is a direct contributor to the daily workflow and operations of the department.
- Maintains a standard of superior service to all Goddard College community members; fosters and maintains positive relationships and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, vendors and other stakeholders.
- Reconciles and reports to the CFAO financial information relevant to restricted funds and scholarships.
- Ensures the timely processing and filing of 1098-T’s and 1099’s at year end.
- Manages satellite learning location space rental insurance and driver insurance.
- Issues and monitors College credit cards
- Serves as the college’s primary point of contact for external accounting and auditing entities,
- Form 990 filing, eZaudit submittal, grant reporting, IPED’s financial submission and any other outside reporting requirements that arise.
- Review and recommend policies as needed.
- Collaborate with Chief Financial Officer on special accounting-related projects for example Perkins Loan assignment.
- Accounting support for other offices, such as Events, Help Desk, Cafeteria, etc.
- Research and reconcile general ledger accounts monthly.
- The Accounting Manager will be able to step in and provide backup support in critical functions, including payroll, to cover staff absences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field and three years’ experience in accounting in a higher education, public sector, or non-profit environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience in which one year of experience is equal to one semester of college study. Sufficient acumen with computers, databases, and other technology to meet the requirements of the position. Knowledge of and demonstrated experience and expertise in general ledger accounting, including state, federal and fund accounts. Must be able to: respond effectively to questions and prepare material in response to inquiries. Must have the capacity to maintain confidentiality. Broad base of knowledge and skills related to maintaining moderately complex manual and computerized record systems. Relevant technical knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles and methods and prior accounts payable and payroll experience desirable. Good administrative, organizational, and supervisory skills. Ability to deal effectively with internal and external personnel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with ADP WorkforceNow payroll software, Netsuite accounting software, Google platforms and the Microsoft Office Suite.
COMPENSATION: $60,000.00 – $70,000.00 annually
