Director of Campus Facilities

Goddard College seeks a Director of Campus Facilities. Goddard College is located on a pastoral landscape in Plainfield, VT; its historic buildings are comprised of a former 1800’s era farm, and it boasts formal gardens, a boxwood maze, and acres of gorgeous land. The college recently installed a state-of-the-art woodchip heating plant that heats 95% of the buildings. This project has made Goddard’s facilities carbon neutral.

The Director of Campus Facilities directs and manages all College buildings & grounds maintenance and custodial functions, and oversees new construction projects to ensure compliance with all internal and external regulations, standards, and requirements. This unique position requires a hands-on, task oriented approach and the ability to physically work alongside those being supervised on a daily basis.

Responsibilities include: planning and overseeing all safety programs; overseeing the custodial functions and services of the campus facilities including operating policies, procedures, methods, compliance, and record systems. The position supervises and monitors all regular department operations, including building/facility/equipment/vehicle maintenance and repair; grounds maintenance, landscaping, parking lots, and garbage/recycling; and vehicle/equipment/grounds preventative maintenance. Additionally, this position establishes and implements procedures to enhance the efficiency of the Goddard College facilities and housekeeping operations.

This position holds all responsibility for major renovation/construction projects; the position plans, requests, and administers all facilities operating budgets, as well as various renovation project budgets, and recommends major facilities purchases. This position prepares specifications for outside contract bids and serves as a liaison with, and monitors work done by, outside contractors. This position works regularly with a wide range of outside vendors, suppliers, and service contractors, including the work of negotiating contract terms and prices.

The Director of Campus Facilities holds direct supervisory responsibility for unionized full time, part-time, and seasonal staff; including establishing work priorities, project schedules, addressing staffing needs, management of hours/overtime, training, and problem solving. This position also works regularly with senior Goddard administrators, department heads, and other College personnel, to plan, coordinate, and evaluate activities/projects/ systems; exchange information; and investigate/resolve problems. This position chairs the College facilities committee, serves on various other College committees, and is responsible for the preparation of a number of reports, including the Clery Act report. This position plans, implements, and initiates campus rental contracts; create budgets, billing, and the coordination of support necessary from other areas of the College.

Salary Range: $55,000 to $65,000 annually
