A Message on Executive Order on Immigration

MBA from the University of Vermont

To the Goddard Community:

Goddard is of the world, not separate from the world, so what issues from the White House affects our students, staff, faculty, alumni, and friends.

The President signed an executive order declaring a 90-day ban on entry into the United States by citizens of seven Muslim-majority nations. This order fundamentally contradicts the values of our community and nation.

We will continue to investigate the ways in which this order impacts the lives of members of our community. We will provide information and support – and defend – students, faculty, and staff who are unjustly barred from entering the United States.

On these matters we will not be silent:

I am proud of the many ways in which members of our community have shown up in spirit, using their voices, and through public action.

Our vigilance matters, particularly when this administration has yet to demonstrate a willingness to act with good will, listen to justifiable opposition, or learn from those with greater experience or insight. We cannot be silent when, with the stroke of a pen, the most vulnerable among us become targets of those in control of one of the world’s most powerful nations.

In solidarity,
