Large Sculpture Exhibit & Events Coming to Downtown Montpelier
PLAINFIELD, Vt. — The Goddard Art Gallery at 54 Main in Montpelier is opening its third art show on December 7. The show, titled “An Unfamiliar Picnic,” features metal and hand-worked sculpture by Kat Clear of Burlington, Vt. and Torin Porter of Glover, Vt.
Clear and Porter both have experience making sculptural environments for music festival audiences and bands such as Phish; they recently joined forces to create the “Lion Mouth Gateway” for Grace Potter’s Grand Point North festival at Burlington’s waterfront park. This month at the Goddard Art Gallery at 54 Main, the artists plan to build an “adventurous exploration with green grass and imagined realities come to life,” says Clear.
“Goddard College has been an incubator for the arts in central Vermont for many decades, and we are excited to bring to Montpelier this sculpture exhibit that showcases two of Vermont’s finest sculptors,” said Goddard College President Barbara Vacarr. “This is a great opportunity for people to enjoy and interact with finely-crafted metal works at an accessible, indoor setting in the heart of Montpelier.”
Meet the artists at the art show opening on December 7, which is part of Montpelier’s Artwalk, from 4-8 pm. Other “picnic” events include a BBQ Reception from 5-8 pm on Dec. 8 with cash bar by Threepenny Taproom and catering by Bluebird BBQ; a Spintress Spinning 78s party with wine and beer from 5-8 pm on Dec. 14; and a Song Menu by B.O.B & Jacqueline from 5-8 pm on Dec. 15.
Viewing times for “An Unfamiliar Picnic” at The Goddard Art Gallery at 54 Main will be Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11:00 am-8:00 pm for the month of December.
