A Day in the Life of a Residency
"The residencies recharged me. They inspired me with the workshops, peer discussions and special speakers. I became focused and motivated."
You will work with your program director, faculty advisors, and fellow students to forge your study plan, attend workshops, advising groups, keynotes, community meals, conversations and large celebrations, as you consider study ideas, program content, your personal goals, and learning strategies.
Share stories about readings, dreams, and insights. Start with new thoughts for the day.
Advising Groups or Faculty Workshops
Bring work to share. Talk about challenges and successes. Discuss next steps in your practice. Provide feedback to others.
Visiting Artist/Speaker Workshop
Most programs host visiting speakers, writers, and artists to offer workshops, discussions, professional guidance, and special presentations during the residency.
11:45 am–1:00 pm
Ask peers for feedback on the new direction of your study plan. Brainstorm about collaborating on work to share later in residency.
Engage with advisors practicing in the field. Take notes, draw pictures, get inspired in unexpected ways.
Computer Lab & Library Research or Faculty Workshops
How do I find something? I want to know more. I seek some answers.
Move & Meditate or Faculty Workshops
Step quietly away from computers, books and talk.
Talk about meeting later for a music jam. Discuss the afternoon readings. Enjoy locally produced and healthy food together.
After Dinner Events or Faculty Workshops
Stay tuned for planned and spontaneous cultural events: visiting writers, speakers, readings, performances, movies, jam sessions, and cabaret.
Read, journal, paint, meditate, reflect, sleep.
