Robert came to Goddard in 1939 and taught philosophy, literature, film and theatre fore 50 years. He also created an innovative counseling program which he would teach to faculty and staff. This is the heart of today's current advisor model. Robert also organized many of the educational conferences over the years. He retired in 1989 and received an honorary doctorate from Goddard in 1995.
In this interview Robert told the story of how he came to work at Goddard. He also discusses at length the challenges that the faculty faced as they set out to establish and grow an alternative educational institution in rural Vermont.
