Bread and Puppet's Deflection Campaign Office with R&R Pillows for Exhausted Electorate Art Exhibit was on display at the Goddard College Art Gallery at 54 Main Street in Montpelier, VT from 11/1/2012 until 12/6/2012 and was part of Goddard's 150th Anniversary Celebration.
In this video, Peter Schumann, founder and director of Bread and Puppet Theater, explains the exhibit. The exhibit featured a local landscape containing a deflection campaign office whose job it was to deflect the viewer's attention away from the glamorous election issues to the muddled reality of the electorate, a reality that doesn't seem to match the confessed values and principles of the campaigners.
The citizenry was advised to acquire the upside-down practices and habits of the ordinary undermen and underwomen of everywhere. To further explain the deflection campaign's mission, an incomplete encyclopedia of HOW-TO books was also no display.
Bread and Puppet Theater was the theatre-in-residence at Goddard College form 1970 and 1974 before they moved to Glover, VT.
