Goddard College does not have a standard curriculum or set of course requirements. Instead, Goddard students carry out the work of the semester through the completion of five packets presenting their learning activities to their faculty advisor (Students in the MA in Psychology and Counseling Program pursue self-designed coursework during the semester under the direction of faculty mentors). The process of creating each packet represents the equivalent of
coursework and classroom experience in a traditional college or
university. Packets are an integral aspect of Goddard’s education format, reflecting the college’s commitment to student-centered and student-designed learning.
Packets are typically 15-30 pages and can include theoretical and critical writing, reflection, creative work, and documentation of semester projects and learning activities. Students send their packets to their faculty advisor, who responds with feedback, support, encouragement, advice on continued and new directions, and suggestions for resources and reading material. Students also find inspiration and support from their advising cohort, sharing packet experiences and project ideas through informal correspondence throughout the semester.
