In this commentary aired on Vermont Public Radio, journalist and Vermont Life Magazine editor-emeritus Tom Slayton talks about Goddard's role in shaping and transforming Vermont.

I recently had the privilege of representing Goddard at the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) conference in Los Angeles, on a panel about campus and college sustainability. 

The panel, sponsored by the Chronicle of Higher Education, showcased Goddard as a model, for other institutions of learner- and learning-centered education, of a campus successfully integrating sustainability and the relationship between this kind of learning and practicing sustainability. NEW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Do you know someone who would benefit from a Goddard education? Recommend a friend for the upcoming spring semester and, once they enroll, they will receive a $1,000 scholarship to any Goddard program!

Here's how:

1) Contact your friend and encourage them to visit www.goddard.edu/academics to learn more about the programs we offer.

2) Let your friend know you're willing to write a letter of recommendation.

3) When your friend applies for the spring 2013 semester, write them a letter of recommendation and send to Goddard.  In your letter please indicate that you are a Goddard alumni.

BREAD AND PUPPET RETURNS TO GODDARD

  • Dead Man Rises + Other Short Stories, a Bread & Puppet revival showon Nov. 30 at the Haybarn Theatre at Goddard College in Plainfield, VT.
     
  • A Bread and Puppet exhibit will also be featured at the new Goddard Art Gallery at 54 Main in Montpelier, VT. The opening reception is Nov. 1st, 5-8pm. The exhibit will be shown Nov. 1-30 on Thursdays and Fridays from 11-4:30pm.

     

EVALYN BATES HONORED

On September 30, Goddard College honored Evalyn Bates with a posthumous Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters for her groundbreaking research that inspired the creation of Goddard's Adult Degree Program in 1963, the nation's first low-residency degree program specifically designed for adult students. Featured in the photo above are President Barbara Vacarr (right), Evalyn's niece Nancy Walton (IBA '01) and her colleague Bill Kauffman.

Peter Liveright

Peter Liveright (BA RUP '43) was one of the first two graduates of Goddard College's four-year residential undergraduate program in 1943. Goddard Trustee Suzanne Forsyth recently visited with Peter and interviewed him about his time at Goddard.

Mary Karr
Mary Karr, MFAW '79

American poet, essayist and best-selling memoirist (The Liars Club, Cherry, Lit) Mary Karr is a 1979 Goddard graduate and the Peck Professor of English Literature at Syracuse University.

In this interview with the Paris Review, Karr discusses her time at Goddard and how it influenced her work.

This photographic exhibit traces the evolution of Goddard College from its Universalist roots at the Goddard Seminary in Barre to the move to Greatwood Farm and Estate in Plainfield in 1938, and the radical educational and social experiments that took place there from 1938 to the present day.
