WGDR Radio Receives National AwardWGDR-FM in Plainfield, Vermont has received a My Source Community
Impact Award for engagement from the Corporation for Public
Broadcasting (CPB).
WGDR was recognized for its free and open community media training program, through which central Vermont residents can learn how to do their own radio shows, and other related skills.
The My Source awards were created by the CPB to give recognition to stations for their commitment and responsiveness to their communities.
Licensed to Goddard College in Plainfield, WGDR is a non-commercial, listener-supported educational station with nearly 70 volunteer programmers who live and work in central and northern Vermont, and who range in age from 12 to 78 years. The station broadcasts at 91.1 FM, and can also be heard online at www.wgdr.org. As Goddard College itself continues to grow, the station, too, plans to expand its coverage to the Hardwick-Morrisville area. The Federal Communications Commission recently authorized WGDR to pursue that goal.
“From the economy to the environment, from health concerns to arts education, public broadcasting stations are a trusted source of information and engagement for all Americans,” said Pat Harrison, president and CEO of the CPB.” “We congratulate WGDR for its outstanding work, WGDR’s training program will be recognized at the public radio development and marketing conference on July 8 in San Diego, CA.
