Challenging Times: 1980 - 2002Changes at Goddard 1980 was a watershed year for social and cultural change for Goddard and the nation. By the fall of 1980, these deep and powerful changes in the world of higher education caused Goddard to encounter hard times. The College was participating in a federally funded reorganization of its academic, administrative, and financial structures - a major college-wide experiment in welding all Goddard experimental programs into a single institution with a single faculty. Several of the intensive residency programs were transferred from Goddard to other institutions interested in "alternative education". Seeds from the Goddard experiments germinated in many places of learning that were seeking to remain relevant in the adult learning world of the 1980's.
Despite continuous change and evolution, the college remained true to its roots, solvent, and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. |
