BA and MA in Education and Licensure Programs
My main interests have to do with critical pedagogy, partnership education and other libratory forms of education. More specifically, I'm interested in the political implications of teaching and the roles communities, and social justice values play in education. I'm also interested in developing classroom environments that allow for an emergent curriculum and a communal design process. I am presently researching and writing about men's identity development and the role that the "machinery of belief" plays in quest for ethical behavior. I am also interested in prison reform and inmate justice and to this end sit on the board of the John Howard Society of Toronto.
I've been a faculty member in Teacher Education at Goddard College since 1990 and am a Liberal Studies professor at Seneca College. I've also taught at a number of other colleges including the Graduate Department of Education at York University.
I often present workshops and give talks on a number of topics, most recently: "Transforming Education: Teaching and Parenting for Change", "Education of the Home: Changing the World Beyond the Home" and, "The Importance of Play in Childhood." Published articles include: "Nurturing the Radical Spirit", "Families: Challenging the Popular Wisdom," and "Education and Critical Awareness."
I am an avid gardener, a reluctant weightlifter and longtime coach. I train and live with an agility and show dog and love to ride my motorcycle.
