Part Time Faculty Openings

Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont and Port Townsend, Washington has a national reputation for leadership in progressive education. Our students attend an eight-day on campus residency each semester during which they develop individualized study plans with faculty advisors. After the residency, faculty members provide mentorship through written exchange over a 15-week semester.

 

Qualifications
Terminal degrees are required for most faculty positions; teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; and participation in an on-site residency and subsequent supervision and written exchange with independent study students of diverse learning styles. Cross-disciplinary approach with experience and commitment to student-centered, progressive pedagogy is important.

 

Compensation

Part-time workload and compensation vary depending on student enrollment and assigned program. Salary will be approximately $6,200 to $9,675 per semester. Faculty are eligible for health and dental insurance.

BA & MA in Education and Licensure

Goddard College is seeking candidates with a strong background in theory and practice and a commitment to progressive, emanicipatory, and multicultural education; a generalist with focus in one or more of the following areas: middle/high school mathematics and science, literacy and reading, special education, and school counseling. A terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.), experience in K-12 and/or higher education, and bilingual Spanish/English skills are preferable. Successful candidates must travel to the Goddard College campus for the July 10–18, 2008 and January 15-23, 2009 residencies.

 

BA & MA in Health Arts and Sciences Program

Goddard College is seeking candidates with a broad background in holistic approaches to community health. Preference will be given to candidates with diverse backgrounds in the following areas: public health/multi-cultural/international health, community health education/organizing, men’s health, holistic nursing, integrative health, addictions, health coaching, arts and healing, and spirituality and health. Successful candidates must travel to the Goddard College campus for the August 7–15, 2008 and February 12-20, 2009 residencies.

 

BA in Individualized Studies Program

Goddard College is seeking candidates with graduate-level preparation and practice in liberal arts. Successful candidates will be able to respond critically and compassionately to student work and will be prepared in several of the following disciplinary areas: creative Writing, mathematics, technology, music, cultural studies, community activism, and social change history and theory. Successful candidates must travel to the Goddard College campus for the August 21–29, 2008 or September 18–26, 2008 and February 26–March 6, 2009 or March 26–April 3, 2009 residencies.

 

BFA in Creative Writing Program

Goddard College is seeking creative writers with an earned MFA degree in creative writing and/or publication, strong college-level teaching experience, workshop facilitation, and experience with a literary journal. BFA faculty members also work with individualized BA students; applicants must be prepared to respond to student work in at least two areas of study in addition to creative writing. Interested writers are urged to explore the Goddard BFA-CW program on the Goddard web site before applying. Successful candidates must travel to the Goddard College campus for the September 18–26, 2008 and March 26–April 3, 2009 residencies.

 

MA in Individualized Studies Program

Goddard College is seeking candidates with broad backgrounds in interdisciplinary studies across the liberal arts and sciences disciplines; including new directions in history and philosophy of science, anthropology/anthropology of consciousness, socio-musicology, linguistics; as well as specializations in the following areas: Transformative Language Arts, Consciousness Studies, and Environmental Studies/Place/Ecology. Successful candidates must travel to the Goddard College campus for the August 12-22, 2008 and February 10–20, 2009 residencies.

 

MA in Psychology and Counseling Program

Goddard College is seeking Doctoral-level generalists who have expertise in some combination of two or more of the following areas: Art Therapy, Expressive Arts, Counselor Education, Ethnic Minority Issues, and LGBT issues. Returned Peace Corps Volunteers are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates must travel to the Goddard College campus for the October 12–20, 2008 and April 16–24, 2009 residencies.

 

MA in Socially Responsible Business and Sustainable Communities Program

Focus in Socially Responsible Business: Goddard College is seeking candidates with a broad background in socially responsible business development and a commitment to social justice. Specialized interest may include: business start-up, entrepreneurship in the social sector, marketing socially responsible and environmentally friendly products and services, finance/accounting, and/or raising capital for governance of, or workforce management in socially responsible organizations. Focus in Sustainable Communities: Goddard College is seeking candidates with a broad background in sustainable community development. Specialized interest areas may include: social justice/community activism, local economic development, local, regional, national or international environmental issues and stewardship, participatory democracy, public/private partnerships, design and implementation of public policy, consensus-building, and/or governance of community organizations. Successful candidates must travel to the Goddard College campus for the October 12–20, 2008 and April 16–24, 2009 residencies.

 

MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts Program

Goddard College is seeking candidates with wide knowledge of contemporary art practices, theory, and strong interest in the philosophy and practice of progressive education. Ability to work with a wide range of backgrounds and media and a willingness to support students with different art philosophies and values is required. Successful candidates must travel to the Goddard College campus for the July 23–August 1, 2008 and January 28-February 6, 2009 residencies.
