FACULTY

Ryan Boudinot's Blueprints of the Afterlife has been named a finalist for the Philip K. Dick Award. The winner will be announced on March 29 at Norwescon, in Seatac, WA.

Deborah Brevoort's play "The Velvet Weapon," a backstage farce about democracy, will receive a staged reading in the NJ Playwright's Contest Festival at William Patterson University in Wayne, N.J. on Tuesday, January 22nd at 8 pm. 

Bhanu Kapil photoBhanu Kapil’s work is currently featured in Review of Contemporary Fiction, Los Angeles Review of Books, CutBank, Galatea Resurrects #19, and New York Quarterly Review.  Kapil's work also appears in three new anthologies: The HarperCollins Book of English Poetry by Indians (2012), I'll Drown My Book: Conceptual Writing by Women (Les Figues Press, 2012) and The Sonnets (Telephone Books, Oct. 2012).

Michael Klein has four readings coming up in February: 

Douglas A. Martin's Italian translation of his novel Outline of My Lover (una traccia del mio amore) appears on indieforbunnies list of Best Books of 2012 alongside Daniel Clowes, Richard Ford, Haruki Murakami, and Joan Didion.

John McManus has been awarded a 2013 Creative Capital Literature grant for his new novel about the gay refugee community in Cape Town, South Africa.  Two excerpts from his recently completed novel The Cultivationists have been published in Fiddleblack and Plots With Guns.  He just completed a Ucross Foundation Literature Residency in December.  In summer 2013, he’ll be a Resident Artist at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program. Also, he is a fiction judge for the 2012 Best of the Net Awards and also the 2013 Delaware Press Association Writing Awards. In Boston during AWP on March 7, he will be part of a reading co-sponsored by Fried Chicken and Coffee and Sunnyoutside Press.Gothicka by Victoria Nelson

Victoria Nelson  delivered some in-depth reflections on her new novel GOTHICKA in this interview with John Morehead of Theofantastique.  The playwright Sibyl Kempson has published a two-play volume, The Secret Death of Puppets and Ich, Kürbisgeist, with 53rd State Press. Both plays are an homage to the works of Victoria Nelson, who wrote a short introduction to the book.

ALUMNI

Matthew Quick’s (MFAW '07) film adaptation of his novel, The Silver Linings Playbook, received 8 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), Best Supporting Actor (Robert DeNiro), Best Supporting Actress (Jacki Weaver), Best Director (David O. Russell), and Best Adapted Screenplay (David O. Russell).

STUDENTS

Ron Heacock’s (IBA '12, MFAW '14) short story, “Otis's Lament,” will be published in the upcoming winter issue of Elohi Gadugi Journal.

Jennifer Mackenzie (MFAW '13) has been hired by the Film Studies Department at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, to teach Advanced Screenwriting to graduate students in UNC's Graduate Liberal Studies program this spring 2013 semester.

Shae Savoy (MFAW '14) had two poems, "Ventriloquy" and "A Dead Language" accepted for publication in the 2014 We'Moon.

Trisha Winn (MFAW '14) had her lyrical prose piece “Stone Imagining” accepted for publication by Elohi Gadugi

Chelsea Werner-Jatzke (MFAW '13) has been accepted as a 2013 Jack Straw Writer; she was one of twelve writers selected. Throughout the year she and the eleven other writers in the program will be featured through podcasts, radio, live readings throughout the city of Seattle, and finally in an anthology that collects the work they all generate while participating in this program.

Ive been gone a semester or two, doesnt mean much to me, however many of the 2013 MFAW Plainfield grads (friends of mine) had accomplishments too, why aren't they listed? I got the emails. Congrats to everyone who is listed. Nice to see how well Goddard is doing in my absence.
