BA in Individualized Studies Program
My life is organized around a spiritual practice that I began in 1967 when I met my teacher Kirpal Singh. This orientation includes daily meditation, self-introspection, vegan diet, and meditation retreats in the US and India. It is the foundation of my work as a therapist and teacher, and inspires continual new study of multi-cultural perspectives on spirituality and the nature of consciousness.
I grew up in the woods and have always lived close to nature, most of my life in Vermont and now on Martha’s Vineyard. My learning has come from life, from academic programs, from clients and students, and from my travels to other cultures. I raised and home schooled my two children K – 12 while living on a self-sufficient, off-grid, organic homestead. In my private practice, I use hypnotherapy, dreams, and artwork to assist people in fathoming their own inner knowing, and I work with the principles of Chinese medicine and Ayurveda to develop health-restoring strategies that embrace all aspects of life.
My ongoing research interests include: Qigong; the intelligence of nature; sacred geometry; building solar aligned stone circles; megalithic Ireland; shamanism; spiritual partnership with the dying process through the use of dreams; and currently the relationships between peak oil, resource wars, 9/11, climate change, and the transition to sustainable living and local economies. I love collaborating with self-directed students in the enthusiastic exploration of meaningful subjects and have been teaching in the Goddard low residency programs since 1997. I have mentored studies on body-mind healing, energy medicine, trauma as personal transformation, spiritual stories for children, yoga for stress reduction, music therapy, art therapy, family systems, conflict resolution, nutrition, food politics, permaculture, alternative energy, and Spanish.
