BA & MA in Education - Seattle Program Residency

The Education - Seattle Program's spring residency takes place February 3-10, 2012 in Seattle, Washington. The low-residency BA & MA in Education program is dedicated to promoting progressive education through student-centered studies that are individualized, problem-based, inquiry-driven, and grounded in social responsibility.
 

Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts - VT Residency

The MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts Vermont spring residency takes place February 3 - 10, 2012. The low-residency MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts is a five-semester, 60-credit terminal degree program designed to facilitate students in articulating an original vision, refining expressive and technical skills, and experimenting in new directions.

Goddard College Visiting Artist Keith Hennessy

Goddard College's MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts Program presents Keith Hennessy with "What I'm Trying to Do," An Artist Talk with Video, Sunday, 7:30-9 pm at the Haybarn Theater. Keith Hennessy is a performer, choreographer, teacher and organizer based in San Francisco whose work attempts to re-frame and disrupt the limitations of art for social change.

Opening Reception of "Art and Breath: The Life Work of Hideichi Oshiro"

Hide Oshiro, a 101-year-old Japanese artist, recently donated his life’s work to Goddard. Oshiro learned the art of etching, Japanese “ukiyoe” woodcuts, gold carving, sculpture and brushwork at AyoamaGakuin Senior High School and Sophia University in Japan. This exhibition at Goddard College will be the most comprehensive treatment of the artist’s work ever presented.

The MFA in Creative Writing - Washington spring residency takes place February 17-25, 2012 in Port Townsend, Washington. The low-residency Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program is a 48-credit, rigorous, student-centered program for writers who choose to live their lives and hone their writing skills at the same time.
 

BA & MA in Health Arts & Sciences Residency

The Health Arts & Sciences spring residency takes place February 17-24, 2012 in Plainfield, Vermont. The low-residency BA & MA in Health Arts & Sciences Program inspires students to gain new tools to actively help restore wholeness and health to people and their communities.

The MA in Individualized Studies spring residency takes place February 17-24, 2012 in Plainfield, Vermont. The low-residency MA in Individualized Studies is a 48-credit, interdisciplinary liberal studies program integrating personal vision with radical thinking and engaged practice.

The MA in Individualized Studies program presents Psychologist and Poetry Therapist Marianela Medrano-Marra, who in this interactive presentation will explore ways to see through the eyes of “the other.” Medrano-Marra will show how we can relive and describe cross-cultural experiences and write directly from the dirt dangling from our cultural roots.

Frances Moore Lappé is a nationally-known speaker on issues related to environmental sustainability and ecological & social justice. As a guest speaker for the Bachelor's in Sustainability and Bachelor's in Individualized Studies residency, she will be talking about key concepts in her new book, EcoMind: Changing the Way We Think, to Create the World We Want.

The MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts program is proud to welcome visiting artist Rick Lowe to the Spring 2012 Port Townsend residency. Lowe will share his art and discuss his experience of "working in the public sphere," reflecting upon the ethics, opportunities and unique approach he has developed over many years of community-based practice. A question and answer period and an informal reception follow.

"Ethics, Cultural Traditions, and Art Practice" with Visiting Artists Shaun Peterson and Steve Brown

Pacific Northwest artists Shaun Peterson and Steve Brown are both master carvers working in Northwest Native traditions, one Native and the other non-Native. In this panel event, the artists will share their work and discuss their experiences of the often complex ethical questions surrounding cultural traditions and "appropriation" in the arts. Audience is invited into facilitated conversation around the issues raised.

A 3-Credit Travel Intensive in Polynesia, on the Big Island of Hawaii, open to ALL students of Goddard College, students of other schools, and non-students who wish to immerse themselves in a deep awareness of place and the story of plants. We will engage our senses, minds and hearts in learning how to see nature and appreciate the intelligence and adaptation of earth-based cultures.
